Keep Them Alive
Controls:
W,A,S,D | Q (A) | E (B) | ESC (Start)
How to play:
Survive as many waves as possible. Start a wave by interacting with the obelisk. Spend your attribute points on the portrait thing. Tell your Allies how to position, what to target and what to equip!
Bugs:
- CRASH: Apparently there is something wrong with the 'random' setting for the knight character. So please don't set it to random, the game may crash at some point!
- Spelling mistakes
- When you spend attribute points, every attribute shows "1" instead of it's real value until you selected it once.
- When you want to delete an item within the equip screen, there is no feedback, although once pressed "E" the item will be deleted upon closing the equip screen.
- Item stats in the equipment screen show different values for the same item (allthough the items stats don't change).
- After and during the wave you can't walk towards the edges of the map, although you should be able to between the waves (to open chests there).
- When playing again after game over, player character is still at 0 HP (doesn't reset, oops!). Hold E to heal after restarting!
Idea of the project: I really wanted to make a (2.5D) top down game, though the 4 direction buttons felt too limiting. But I thought, the player having only 4 directions doesn't mean the NPCs can't have more! I also had the idea of an RPG party manager for longer, so I combined both.
What I'm happy with:
I could bring most of the stuff into the game that I wanted + some more. It plays pretty well and the balance in it's final state is also decent, even though there were some last minute adjustments. I'd say its my most finished game so far.
What I'm not so happy with:
The visuals don't look too much like a gameboy game. Although I forced myself every time to stay within the 4 colors, the movements and animation of the characters give it an unfitting modern feel that breaks with the rest of the aesthetics.
Planned, but didn't make it in:
- Random levels after every wave. (as if the party was traveling)
- Mage character.
- Equippable armor / armor drops.
- Buildable/Purchaseable barricades (instead of pre-placed ones)
- 2 more enemy types, one ranged and a sort-of boss.
